Homeopathy the Gentle Art of Healing

ABOUT HOMEOPATHY

Have you ever heard anyone say, “my leg is feeling so happy,” “my heart is healthy,” or “my brain is very intelligent?” Of course not. It is never just the hand or leg, back or brain that is feeling happy, strong, or intelligent. It is the whole person who is feeling and experiencing a state of well being. How is it then that sickness or disease is believed to have the power to isolate, compartmentalize, fragment, and afflict a single body part or parts? Our body parts do not function alone and independently.

The word “I” implies all of us – our thoughts, emotions, physical body and its functioning, and the soul that resides in us. It implies the whole person. The suffering of the body is experienced by the whole person and, similarly, joy is experienced by the whole person too. We are not a mechanical total of our parts.

These ideas of wholeness, simmering in my mind since my early teens, prompted me to explore various holistic approaches to well being. Out of the many holistic disciplines, I chose to study and practice Homeopathy.

Samuel Hahnemann, a German medical doctor, founded Homeopathy in the late 1700s. He experimented extensively, observed meticulously, and presented his views, ideas, thoughts, and findings in “Organon of Medicine.” In this book, he brought out the fundamental laws and principles of Homeopathy that he had gathered over a period of 20 years. In essence, Homeopathy recognizes disease symptoms as the body’s defense mechanism’s best attempt to heal and endeavors to cooperate with it via the “Law of Similars,” or “Like cures like.” As a result, no symptoms are suppressed, and the vital force is offered gentle support so that it can become stronger and heal.
